@stefano They should try to survive on 64 kbit/s on a throttled 4G connection. Its actually pretty usable - unless you browse JavaScript heavy sites, or ones with lots of images and videos. HTTP sites with a little bit of CSS are completely fine.

Back in 2019, I had the genius idea to buy a pre-paid 1 or 2-year mobile plan with "unlimited" hotspot at 2G speeds (i.e., capped to 128kbps) for my apartment.
I though it would be totally fine, as I remembered cruising the then-modern web with just DOS and a 1200 baud modem in 1995. I wasn't spoiled, and didn't need modern broadband speeds, I told myself.
Nope. Everything just gracelessly failed, even just basic downloads with wget.
$120 down the drain. XD
@stefano Kids these days have no idea how good they have it. Give them a 14.4 baud modem on a PowerMac 7100/66AV running MacOS 7 Let's see how well they fare.
Also, forget the web, they can use Gopher.

@stefano That's awesome! What computer were you using at the time?
@peteorrall it was a 486 DLC 33mhz. The performance was more similar to a 386 than a "real" 486sx
@stefano @peteorrall I've only used 1k2 for Packet Radio, but I think there is a 1200bps modem in one of my old computers.
My first AMD was a 386DX40, which I later had confirmed (I got a 2nd hand) Intel 486DX33.
@AngelaScholder @stefano My first computer was a Macintosh LC. 2MB RAM, a 40MB SCSI hard drive, and a whopping 16MHz CPU.
I miss that machine.

@stefano Absolutely. Up until this year I still had a 20/10 Mbit/s Cable Internet to my office and I could work just fine.
