@shauna Kagi is a revelation. It’s basically search like Google was 25 years ago. It just provides the result you are looking for and you’re done.

Yes you have to pay for it, but in my experience it’s cheaper than the wasted time spent on the other search engines. And if I’m searching for something that might cost me money I’m not worried that it’s trying to send me off to some sponsored site that will make the search engine extra cash instead of saving me money.

After spending some time digging through it, I think we're basically in the same place as with browser engines: there are literally no good options left. All of the mainstream search sites are investing in LLM bullshit and feeding the machine that is destroying their own search results. There are some cool indie search sites like Marginalia that are too small for general purpose search. Now what?
