NZ -- Tsunami activity alert.

Following the 8.7 earthquake off Russia, NEMA is warning of strong currents and surges for ALL New Zealand coastal regions. They advise unusual currents and unpredictable surges will begin around midnight (NZ time) and continue for several hours. Coastal inundation is not expected.

Basically get away from the sea and keep away.

Update: tsunami activity will hit the North Island's east coast around midnight, and Dunedin 2.5 to 3 hours later. I guess everybody in between gets the experience pro-rata.

"Otago Civil Defence said the earliest expected surge arrival time for the region's coast was between 2.30am and 3am tomorrow."
