"Exculpate" is a word I really need to remember more in English. Sometimes I want the sense of "disculparse" and "unguilt" doesn't exist in English.

I was talking about the great contrast between the hooded figures singing "mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa" and Frollo saying "it's not my fault" in "Hellfire".

They say "mea culpa" while he tries to deny his culpability.

I'm watching a reaction vid that compares the English, Iberian Spanish, and Latin American Spanish versions, and like…

"mi culpa no" "mea culpa" (Spain)
"mi culpa no es" "mea culpa" (Latin America)

The fact that it's literally the same word between Spanish and Latin… I feel like that highlights the discord more than in English where you have to actually know the Latin phrase "mea culpa" to hear how it contrasts with "not my fault."
