Hype-as-the-product is the other side of the enshittification coin. Both are enabled by lock-in.
The same barriers to switching service providers that enable them to enshittify their services in order to extract more value from people using them also mean that even if a provider has a slightly better service, people won't switch to it.
The service would need to be so much better as to justify going through the hell if migrating from one provider to the other.
