@RecurringBloatware @Vanquixote Actually, allowing for industry to pay into the pot is one of the key design criteria for the proposed European Sovereign Tech Fund, as is explained in the blog post. The German Sovereign Tech Agency is a fantastic initiative, but it is not designed to pool funding from companies. We want to make it easier to direct industry funding to the maintenance of the right open source projects. That’s the point.
@senficon @RecurringBloatware If this is a market failure, the solution isn’t philanthropy—it’s taxation. Let’s not pretend “pooling” is enough. A Sovereign EU fund should be funded by those who profit most: Big Tech. If OSS is so vital, why should EU taxpayers pay while U.S. firms like Amazon or Microsoft reap the benefits? Let’s stop hiding behind vague industry participation and call for real accountability.
