And they're going open source, with their code now available on code.europa.eu, European Union institutions' open source software repository.

@EC_DIGIT @EC_OSPO Ok so here's one case where it's a bad idea beyond the usual ecological arguments.

What if someone is trans and doesn't want their deadname in the Blockchain transactions forever?

Because it's hard enough for some Devs to get their deadname removed from software contributions in places where it's possible but projects don't want to.

You can't update a Blockchain ledger. It's the whole point of it.

Come to think of it.. doesn't this indicate a missing right in the #GDPR? The right to be forgotten does not cover this.

The right to *exist* with ones true gender.

A person owns their gender. Gender rights allow one to embrace it, identify with it, and requires others to honor that. A person transitioning then entails gender is retroactively changed from birth and ideally IT systems would account for it. Pragmatically legacy systems and regulations can be patched.

Speculation, tangent --

@smallcircles
I thought you could maybe include it in 8 private life combined with 13 right to effective remedy but its a stretch and while looking it up I found for the first time "Article 16 - Restrictions on political activity of aliens. Governments may restrict the political activity of foreigners" and so many grim things have become clear.
