The Probable Direct-Imaging Detection of the Stellar Companion to Betelgeuse: [oops, the paper will only go on ArXiv tonight and appear in ApJL on 24 July] -> Gemini North Discovers Long-Predicted Stellar Companion of Betelgeuse: https://noirlab.edu/public/news/noirlab2523/ - Gemini North telescope in Hawai‘i reveals never-before-seen companion to #Betelgeuse, solving millennia-old mystery. The picture here is from the actual paper which has been sent to me ... compare it to the spiced-up version in the press release! The authors themselves say it's only a 1.5 sigma detection but because it fits the expectations for a 'Betel buddy' so well, they believe it. See https://skyweek.wordpress.com/2025/07/17/allgemeines-live-blog-ab-dem-17-juli-2025/#Jul21 for more discussion!
