Linux has surpassed 5% desktop market share in the US (5.03% in June 2025), per StatCounter, driven by privacy concerns, rising costs of Windows/macOS, and user-friendly distros like Ubuntu. Community celebrates amid gaming and enterprise boosts, though challenges like software gaps persist; analysts eye 7% by 2027.

@yogthos In 2005, Apple passed the 5% mark. We had a poster about it in the breakroom of the Apple store where I worked. The text read something like, "5% is a milestone, but isn't a small number. It means there are 95% of users who still have yet to experience the Mac", which felt really great.

The same rings true today about Linux and finding ways to introduce lightweight, open source compute solutions to everyday people.
