@lauren Is cane sugar worse for teeth than corn syrup? I thought dental caries can do just fine on both. But I might be wrong.

@lauren It seems to me that US colas use corn syrup because it's cheaper. It's cheaper because the Congress passed all sorts of subsidies for corn farmers. Simply repealing those subsidies would raise the prices of sugary drinks, which some think is a way to modify people's behavior in ways they prefer. It would also mean we wouldn't need to import Mexican coke, which has a hefty tariff.

And neither sugar is any better for teeth, so it should be dentist-neutral.

@not2b

I can't find any evidence on the Web that either of #HFCS and #CaneSugar is worse for teeth than the other. I can find plenty of evidence that free sugars, in the amounts typically consumed in the West, are terrible for our health. If Maga cared about Americans' health, they'd tell people to lay off the sugary drinks rather than fiddling with recipes.

I have strong feelings about this, having recently lost a friend to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. She couldn't control her intake of sugary foods, and it killed her, leaving a widower and two daughters just entering their twenties. She was an intelligent woman; she knew she should stop. But this rubbish is engineered to be addictive, and the addiction cost her her life.
