@arisummerland @Suzdal92 Yes! Super helpful.

Now, if I could just get Silent Mode to stop auto-playing sound in videos that I accidentally scrolled onto; especially when I'm just trying to kill time on mass transit when my phone suddenly starts blasting something like "Hey Goober Gang! Smash that like and subscribe button!"

When I say silent, I mean silent.

@Alice @Suzdal92

I am not a huge fan of the most recent iPhone except for two buttons: the actual physical silent button (versus that stupid inset switch that you had to have a fingernail to turn off, which I don't) on the same side as the volume up and down buttons, and the camera button on the other side.

I use the camera button and silent button all the time.

I don't give a crap about Apple AI or any of the other stupid stuff and wish it would all go away. But these two buttons, plus USB C charging? This is what I've been waiting for on the iPhone.

I think this might be my last iPhone, though. If I can afford it in two years or so, I hope to switch to the Fairphone.

@arisummerland @Suzdal92 Same! I had an iPhone mini for years because I liked the small size, but when the 16 came out with the silent button and camera button I was like oh okay I guess I can deal with a slightly larger phone.

But I was hoping the silent button meant SILENT and was losing my mind when videos would start blasting but I think you just solved that too! (I won’t know until I randomly scroll over a dumb video, but I’m pretty confident that was it)!

Thank you again!

@Alice Apple calls what you call the #iPhone silent button the “Action button”; you can change what it does in the Settings app under “Action Button.” Your videos were blasting because the default “silent” action only silences the ringer.

You could maybe make it run a Shortcut instead that toggles both the ringer and toggles the volume to and from 0%. You’d make that in the Shortcuts app.

Here’s Apple’s documentation on how to use and customize the button.
