One father who was acquitted of causing his son’s death said that Dr. Nancy Harper’s abuse diagnosis attached a stigma to him, caused him and his wife PTSD and robbed them of the chance to say a proper goodbye to their son.

This is a dynamic often written about in science and medicine. When the dominant personality of the day competes with the science and medicine, the science and medicine often lose out - as do patients.

That's one reason wags say scientific progress proceeds one funeral at a time. The rigidity and narcissism of the dominant personality leaves the environment, leaving niches for other species to grow and prosper. Until the next one arrives.
