Following up from the "if you were picking a new fediverse service today" poll from last week, I have mocked up a very ugly but proof-of-concept provider picker.

There's still some areas to do, but working in the open as they say, here's something you can poke and prod and offer feedback if you feel like it.

It includes 4 paths for decision support, has some thoughts on ways to streamline it for real world usage, and I'd love to hear your thoughts.

One thought: If I choose to go with a large service, I'd like the table to show just how large. Does mastodon.social dwarf even the other large instances?

But perhaps that's just me, as an experienced user. Maybe folks new to Mastodon wouldn't care.

@jeridansky there's no data scraping, so I'd have to update the population numbers pretty frequently. This is all hand curated for now. Good point though, I'll mull on it.

@jaz You could say “as of” and not update all that often. I’d be looking for order of magnitude, not an exact number.
