A decade ago, when I started university, GitHub's #opensource Atom was the standard text editor that new programmers got introduced to "by default". It was what the university suggested, and so everyone who didn't already have an opinion on text editors started using it.

Years later, #Microsoft bought #GitHub, discontinued Atom, and introduced the replacement: Visual Studio Code. It has completely taken over as the "default editor" for new programmers.

#VSCode is proprietary. This sucks.
