thank you @fediforum for helping us connect with @TCMuffin & @lexicaleigh - ace moderators of the toot.wales instance.

Not only are we now #FediFriends but we're also hatching plans to help others find the way in the #fediverse ...hopefully en masse! 馃挭

But first...

Do buddy systems already exist? 馃檶

Would a buddy system be helpful to others? 馃

Is there a catchy name for transitioning from big tech platforms or can we make one up!? 馃

Do you want to be involved?!! 馃憖

Please boost!!

How about Fire Exit? Particularly relevant given corporate media's role in distracting people from climate science.

> Do you want to be involved?!!

Yes! I've had all sorts of ideas. Like tools that use IndieWeb POSSE tech to extract people's data from the #DataFarms, and import it into their chosen community-hosted replacements.

@fediforum @TCMuffin @lexicaleigh

@strypey

YES!! Love #FireExit!! Have been talking for ages about how the climate activists have raised the fire alarm but not done amazingly at showing people toward the exit!! 馃敟馃馃馃

So excited to welcome you to the campaign, Strypey... you're helping already, tysm! I just got your email too. Let's go!! 馃憤

(also... should I keep these folks on cc? Is it better etiquette to remove...? 馃馃槄)

Thanks @TCMuffin and @lexicaleigh for voicing your interest. Keeping @fediforum tagged for now because the topic is relevant.

A little background for @mediarevolution. As I mentioned in my email, I've been a longtime volunteer for fediverse.party, although less active of late (life stuff). In that time I've done a bit of reaching out to people involved in other fediverse guides of various kinds (instance lists, HowTo sites, etc) to see we can help with and benefit from each other's work.

(2/2)

This includes people like;

* @deadsuperhero of WeDistribute.org

* @smallcircles of Social Coding, maintainer of the Delightful lists for ActivityPub (who mostly prefers private communication these days)

* @FediTips of fedi.tips

* @PaulaToThePeople of joinfediverse.wiki, who I think the @mediarevolution folks have a lot in common with.

* @mastodonmigration - the name says it all

The @fediversity category on SocialHub has some discussions about coordinating fediverse onboarding work.

Any of these people, and I can think of a few others, might be interested in helping with a Fire Exit project to move people en masse from DataFarms to the fediverse and other community-hosted replacements. In fact, they may know of projects in progress (whether tech or social in nature) that could be helpful to such an effort.

@mediarevolution In case it's helpful, here's some stuff I put together towards my vision of the "Fyre Exyt" project, to help people transition for corporate platforms to services that respect their humanity, rather than seeing them as livestock in their DataFarms

That's a judgment call. We do have the option to Mute Conversation to avoid notifications from threads we're not interested in. But in general, I try to think about whether I'd want a notification of my post if I was them.

if I'm commenting on topic in an ongoing thread, I will leave them in. If I go off on a tangent, I'll prune them off, unless I have reason to think they'll be interested in the tangent.
