I guess quietly deleting 1984 from everyone's Swindle devices wasn't a clear enough warning of the danger of anyone having that power. People kept buying them anyway.

I'm starting to understand the end of the 1998 movie Pi. Where after putting a drill bit through his skull, the protagonist is no longer a mathematical savant, and smiles for the first time in the film.
Being smart is no use when no one listens, and the horrific outcomes you try to warn them about in time to avert them, mostly happen anyway. It's torture.
OTOH we'll never know how many horrors we've averted with our nuisance prognostications, because they don't come 🤷♂️
