#Kink info request! Anyone got links to good resources on choking? Why it’s not safe, safer breath play alternatives etc?

A few people in my mentions seem convinced I’m about to write something that advocates choking so I’m gonna say clearly: it’s pretty accepted knowledge in kink spaces now that there is no ‘safe’ way to choke someone. Deliberately restricting someone’s breathing risks cardiac arrest, restricting blood flow to the brain risks seizure. Creating resources that educate people on this, as well as offer alternatives for activities that may be lower risk (examples in next post) is valuable imo.

EXAMPLES.

Safer alternatives to physically restricting someone’s breathing (honour bondage style):

“Hold your breath till I count to 10, there’s a good slut.”

“Breathe in. I’m going to suck your cock for as long as you can hold it.”

Horny stoner style:

Safer alternative to physically choking someone with your hands around their throat:

Using a belt/rope from behind, but instead of wrapping it round their throat (dangerous) you settle it in their mouth (like a bit gag for a horse 😉)

Body harnesses/straps that can be tugged which put pressure on shoulders, but not neck.

Sure, if what you get off on is actually being choked till you asphyxiate, there’s no safe alternative to that. But if you like the sensation of holding your breath, or the action of being restricted/gagged by a partner, there are alternative actions that can trip similar excitement when you’re fucking.

It’s ok and valuable to talk about that and also share knowledge that might be obvious to YOU but isn’t to EVERYONE, about the dangers of choking in general.

I say this as someone who for a very very long time REALLY enjoyed being choked. I was kinky but I knew the risks! Except I actually didn’t, till a friend talked me through some of the medical stuff and I realised (with sadness) that I probably shouldn’t ask for it in bed any more. Not everyone knows this though, so I’d like to write about it. And getting angry at me for requesting links to good resources so I can properly source a blog post feels... unhelpful at best.
