#ASML « reassured » US officials about its ability to remotely disable the EUV machines in Taiwan when the Dutch government met with the company on the threat.

The Netherlands has run simulations on a possible invasion in order to better assess the risks, they added.

The Netherlands, where #ASML is based, plans to expand restrictions that already exist on #EUV lithography exports to China to Deep Ultraviolet lithography.

SMIC has been able to buy #DUV equipment until now but new proposed restrictions would limit ASML’s ability to repair and maintain its semiconductor equipment in China

The Dutch government today published an updated license requirement regarding the export of immersion #DUV semiconductor equipment. #ASML believes this requirement will harmonize the approach for issuing export licenses.

"Since this is a technical change, this announcement is not expected to have any impact on our financial outlook for 2024 or for our longer-term scenarios as communicated during our Investor Day in November 2022. "

Good to see Christophe Fouquet speak up about #ASML being squeezed between US tariffs and US-imposed export ban of EUV to China.

Europe must “decide for itself what it wants” and “should not be dictated to by anyone else”. He would like the continent’s officials to support their world-leading companies more forcefully.

The prospects of running competitive fabs in the US were already dim without tariffs but with 20% tariffs on the EU. Good luck.

With 20% tariffs on $380M High-NA EUV systems, it’s going to be better to mass produce outside of the US and pay the import tariffs on the chips.
