First up: Socks!

No, stick with me here. Having really nice socks is a big deal for your target audience.

But each will prioritise different sorts of socks. You need to Know Your Middle Aged Man

Comfort: Bridgedale wool socks with padded soles.

Quirky: This can be big for men for whom novelty ties are a step too far. Try Art Socks https://shop.nationalgallery.ie/collections/art-socks

Luxury: Bright colours, very if you know you know, sock makers to the pope. https://meschaussettesrouges.com/en/collections/chaussettes-gammarelli

Next: Cooking.

Get a knife. Like, a really good knife. Unless they have one already, get him a Chef’s Knife, which is the best generalist knife design. Not a knife set. Just one knife.

The choice is German or Japanese steel, really.

Japanese looks fancier but is a little harder on maintenance. German is Very Practical, but not as showy.

Worth checking locally in specialist shops as ordering knives online can pose Customs delays.

Games!

Two flavours. Board games and electronic ones.

Board Games: German-style collecting strategy games, if they will have anyone to play with them. (See https://cogsthebrainshop.ie/ )

Electronic games: OK, so obviously, there is a whole tranche of Middle Aged Man who just want shooting or football games on the PS or XBox platforms. You’ll know if that’s yours.

But for something a bit different how about: https://play.date/

Or, if they have a drawer of old games: https://www.analogue.co/pocket

Watches!

Here I am projecting, of course, as this is a particular special interest of mine. But, as I am not alone, maybe it might be of general interest.

A watch: You can spend anything in a watch, but, you know, sometimes you can just get something fun for OK money.

Some casios from your middle aged man’s youth:
World timer, with little LCD Map! https://www.casio-europe.com/euro/products/watches/collection/ae-1200wh-1cvef/

G-Shock: https://m.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/2926175.htm

Most of those will also be in the jewellery and watch shop in your local shopping centre and it would be good to buy them from them. First to stop Jeff Bezos, and also to make sure we still have shops, and again also, because you can look at the sizes and feel too, which is really helpful for a thing meant to be worn on your body.
