I emailed the author of the software, asking for a student discount - they offered to recover my files for free in exchange for getting to run performance tests on some real data instead of their test disks.
To make this short: I got all my files back. For free.

so I just tried to restore a proxmox lxc container to a state from one week ago using proxmox backup server. I had a mount point that was not included in the backup which now appears empty and the disk usage on the data store went down dramatically.
Do any #proxmox wizards know how to get my mount point data back? The disk was stored on a nvme drive with zfs as the data store type, and I sadly did not do a zfs snapshot before restoring the backup...
