Today is International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples. So here’s some history you may not know about.

Lacrosse is a colonial version of a Native American game called Dehoñtjihgwa’és.

The French condemned it as too violent and noted it fostered the indigenous religions they sought to eradicate. Lacrosse is a lighter, white people’s version.
