I haven't been drawing much lately, but the kiddo challenged me to a cute drawing contest. Drawing cute things is not necessarily a strength of mine, but I gave it a shot.

Doodle of a goblin character whose head is about the same size as the rest of its body, giving it the appearance of a toddler. It seems to be barely standing on its stubby little legs and appears to be waving with its stubby little arm. But it's possible it's just trying to maintain its balance. It has some curly horns and a curly patch of hair with droopy ears. It has big eyes and a friendly open expression on its face, but you might still want to be wary of it.

My streak of not drawing much lately continues. But I occasionally pick up the pencil still. These are some:

Little troll like dude wrapped up in a checkered blanket with what appears to be a little pile of soil as a hat. The hat has some flowers growing out of it and little bug buddies hanging around.

The head of some sort of devilish fellow with eyes that are extremely far apart and wide open. It looks like it's seen some things, man.

This drawing was crammed in the corner of a page, so it's partly cut off. But it's a muscular, reptilian fellow with a smoking gun in its right hand, a knife in its left, and a face that I'm sure its mother found quite handsome.

(The picture is offset to the left because I erased the surrounding doodles, but couldn't be bother to otherwise pretty things up. To his right was actually the previously mentioned devilish fellow.) — This drawing was crammed in the corner of a page, so it's partly cut off. I spent some time with the kiddo playing with clays of various sort this afternoon. This is all I managed today, but it's something. And now this is all the evidence it existed as I went smashy smashy a little while later.

My left hand holding up an oil clay sculpt of a face with bulging eyes and tentacles where the mouth should be. The kiddo said it looked like somebody out of Sponge Bob. I have no idea since I've never watched that show. It reminds me more of Dr. Zoidberg, although that wasn't what I was thinking about as I sculpted.

I take the kiddo to the library fairly often, and in the kid area they have low tables with some paper and blank bookmarks. Unfortunately (but understandably), the art supplies on offer are big stubby crayons and some mediocre, kid safe markers.

I've made the best of the available art supplies, but I recently started to bring a ballpoint pen with me. I'm also trying to have some prepared ideas to try for the odd format.

Just some fun doodles.

Along the right side of the bookmark, a tree grows from bottom to top. It's branches protrude out to the left. On the branches we see creatures peering out at us. From bottom to top: A large caterpillar type creature with four eyes, a furry monkey like creature, a very hairy creature with a broad head with only the round eyes visible (behind him a creature pokes its head out upside down from behind the tree), a bird and a mischievous gremlin sit together, a hairy ball with arms and legs hangs from the topmost branch, and finally a creature with three eyes on stalks sits on the topmost branch.

The most challenging aspect of these bookmarks is the fact I'm trying to draw one of these while also managing the kiddo in a space where at any moment other kids and parents can come by and interrupt things. I'm working on one of those brush pen drawings I mentioned above, and it reminded me of a card I made back in 2011. So I dug it out of my archive and decided to share it here.

I made this card for my stepson before he took a lengthy trip over the summer. I was trying to be silly and sincere in a way that wouldn't necessarily embarrass anybody too much.
