This black-and-white picture shows the edge of the summit plateau, which is a snowy slope, with the bright and dark spots of chiaroscuro.
Pretty similar to the other picture of the temporary lake on the Ruapehu summit plateau I posted earlier, but a different picture. This one shows the pale blue lake bottom left, with cliffs running along the top 2/3rds, with a partly cloudy sky. The slopes have some chiaroscuro as a result.
