A new narrative is coming...

#DisorderedDiscourse

It will be the argument of the establishment, that we need to return to a few trusted sources. That all decentralized #SocialMedia should be thought of as #AlgoMedia, where the business model pushes the worst stuff to go viral. That basically the fedi, podcasts and blog/newsletters should not exist. They are not properly vetted.

While they are right about big tech, they are wrong about us. Trust the people. Fuck their money. #DemocracyOfReach

⁂ Article

Mastodon creator shares what went wrong with Threads and ponders the future of the fediverse

In a wide-ranging interview with Eugen Rochko, creator of the decentralized social network Mastodon, Rochko shared why Threads federation fell flat, why ActivityPub and ATProto will likely never merge, and what it will take to grow the fediverse.

ActivityPub

The ActivityPub protocol is a decentralized social networking protocol based upon the [ActivityStreams] 2.0 data format. It provides a client to server API for creating, updating and deleting content, as well as a federated server to server API for delivering notifications and content.

@articles

gotta disagree (in a nuanced way) about the social network vs social media argument.

a social network is more private like discord. for friends, family and groups. social media is public and about attention, but the people decide (hence social). it's not passive. you have to boost and maybe comment on why something is great. it's what does mastodon does great. it can let us displace the biggest problem we have, big money having influence via mass media.

the bad stuff is #AlgoMedia.
