Speaking of the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, I was mildly surprised when my kid developed an obsession with the story.

I was more surprised when a friend’s kids several years later developed the same obsession at about the same age.

I was even more surprised when I discovered that this is apparently fairly common, enough that there’s at least two kids’ books about it.

Good article reflecting what is known, what is not known, and what has improved in the fifty years since the shipwreck.

"In the century prior to the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald, there were more than 6,000 shipwrecks on the Great Lakes, including two in the previous 20 years that killed more than 20 sailors each.

"In the 50 years since, there hasn’t been a single one."
