🌐 Laura Paccini, from Peru and now based in the USA, joined Climatematch Academy as a volunteer, helping develop projects and support students in their journey through climate science. 🎤 "I’m an atmospheric scientist originally from Peru. After completing my PhD, I spent a short period as a remote lecturer at my former university. That experience made me realize I could contribute to science not only through research, but also through education and outreach that make climate science more accessible. When I moved to the U.S. for a postdoctoral position, I saw Climatematch Academy’s call for volunteers in early 2023 and immediately jumped in. I started in the Communications Team but quickly joined the Projects Team during Climatematch’s very first edition. That year, our group was designing project topics from scratch. I was impressed by the leadership of Zane and Natalie, and by the global collaboration of scientists to develop six project templates. I co-developed the project “Precipitation Variability and Extreme Events”, and I’m glad to see it remain one of the most popular projects across all three Climatematch editions. In the second edition, I co-chaired the Projects Team, refining templates and creating a guide for Project TAs. While my involvement is lighter now, I continue to support Climatematch by updating material, reviewing applications, and helping with outreach." 💫 Her message to others considering getting involved:   "I’d say Climatematch Academy is a great opportunity to learn and connect within the global climate science community. It fosters open science and accessible education and brings together people from diverse backgrounds, disciplines, career stages and regions who share an interest in climate." Laura's journey shows how volunteering with Neuromatch allows you to contribute to meaningful projects, support a global scientific community, and be part of inspiring students’ journeys in climate science. 🤓 Climatematch Academy offers a Computational Tools for Climate Science course every July, along with open-source learning materials you can access anytime. ➡️ Explore more: https://lnkd.in/gtKetM35 📬 Stay in the loop: https://lnkd.in/epWXUw8k 🙋 Share your story: https://lnkd.in/eMy5nJuH #Climatematch #MyClimatematchStory #ImpactStory #ClimateScience #InternationalResearch #ClimateAction #STEMEducation #ClimateChange #ScientificCommunity #ClimateCareers
