The place I stayed in Taiwan had a neat way of providing coffee in the rooms, which didn't require a machine that consumed non-recyclable pods. It came in things like tea bags with some card on the side that held them above a mug. You tore off the top and then mounted them across the top of the mug, then poured hot water through them. They work just like a coffee filter. I believe the bags should be compostable.

I've not seen them anywhere else, but they were a much better option than providing instant coffee (which is a crime against humanity) if the only equipment in a room is a kettle.

The instructions were pretty bad (I didn't take a picture of the illustrations, but they were not helpful). And trying to figure them out with machine translation before drinking coffee was a bit tricky.
