Parks Canada has released a video on the importance of peatlands (and it just happens to include a shot of my daughter collecting peat samples for study).

In the rush to mine critical minerals in the Ring of Fire, that activity can potentially release a lot of carbon that has been stored for thousands of years. Hopefully the scientists, like my daughter, will be listened to in order to minimise the potential damage.
