Holy cow, this project has an exterior version as well.

What's interesting about this is the building itself is a gsplat from a 3D model rendered in a tool like Blender. The entire surrounding area is a separate gsplat likely created from drone photos. #3d#GSplats#playcanvas

Kind of an obscure talk, but if you find #3D lighting and/or Overwatch interesting, you might enjoy this talk. The debugging tools were neat to see.

They started work on overhauling the global illumination before Overwatch 2 even launched in 2023. In late 2024, they started shipping the new lighting system.

Once you build this highly complex model in #Blender, it's a ton of work to created an optimized 3D model for the web. Foliage at this scale will never both look good and be performant.

By taking hundreds of virtual photos of your Blender model, Gaussian Splatting allows this 3D model to actually be viewed in the web with minimal remodeling.
