All right folks, the Human Web Collective is now running #PieFed v1.3 and it is GLORIOUS! 🎉

* With Lemmy API compatibility, you can now use @voyagerapp to log in and use the site. For those who don't know, this is an Apollo-for-Reddit inspired client which absolutely rocks!
* The federation of Link posts is much improved, looks great in Mastodon.
* Everything feels zippy, even running on my modest VM.

Looks like someone's built a Reddit-like on top of ATProto. Would be really interesting to see whether it could interact with the threadiverse through something like BridgyFed, which currently only works with microblogs (I think?)

@matrix Is there a place the Matrix community can discuss protocol-level issues that isn't GritHub? If not, it really is about time to set one up. Lemmy and PieFed are options for an official threadiverse instance, and both Discourse and NodeBB now have some level of ActivityPub support.

This could even be an opportunity to dogfood adding Matrix protocol support to a forum package.

Our fediverse conversations are gonna have the context they have been missing!

This past June, I put together a write-up about two major approaches to backfilling conversations. The ability to properly backfill conversations means we will be able to make major inroads toward solving the feeling that the fediverse is quiet.
I, alongside several other members of the SWICG Forums and Threaded Discussions Task Force (ForumWG) have been working toward building implementor support for Conversational Contexts — the ability to explicitly classify a set of objects as belonging to a conversation, whether that be a topic, reply tree, or similar.
I am happy to report that we have made some wonderful inroads this past few months!
jesseplusplus@mastodon.social has been working closely with the Mastodon team to allow software to backfill from Mastodon — this pull request has now been approved!
I have been working with both nutomic@lemmy.ml and rimu@piefed.social to allow software to backfill from Lemmy and Piefed, respectively. (Lemmy PR, Piefed issue)
This marks a major milestone in the adoption of conversational contexts. With Mastodon on board backfill will be possible with the majority of the microblogiverse. With Lemmy and Piefed on board, backfill will be possible with the majority of the threadiverse.
Remember that pfefferle@mastodon.social was an early adopter of conversational contexts, and we have been able to backfill from WordPress blogs for quite awhile now (so that's the blogiverse too)
I for one, am eagerly awaiting the next version of all of these softwares!!

I can safely say my #PieFed instance is very nearly ready to go public! 🥳

I'm convinced the public web forum of tomorrow is a #Threadiverse installation, and PieFed has risen to the top as the best project in this genre imo. Can't wait to go all-in on promoting it.

@ivantodorov Give Piefed a try - it interoperates with Lemmy and Kbin/Mbin. The cool feature I like about Piefed is it will link messages in cross-posts so that even if you're in a small community, you'll get to see the bigger picture of what's being discussed. On lemmy you have to navigate to the crossposted links to see other comments, which if you don't, can make your experience feel walled-off.
