"The Regulatory Standards Bill has passed with the backing of the coalition parties.

National and New Zealand First agreed to pass the bill into law as part of their coalition agreements with ACT.

The bill has faced fierce pushback from the public, with more than 98 percent of public submissions opposed."

Parliamentary supremacy at its most antidemocratic. In 2026 I will vote for a party that makes scrapping it a bottom line.

I missed the submission deadlines for the Poor Debanked PlanetWreckers Bill and the Anti-Wellbeing Bill. But even once they close, it's not too late to email all the party leaders using their Parliamentary email address. Which also puts your views on the public record, and keeps our total opposition to this casual coup live in their minds.

Links to those bills here, along with the text of my submission on the Deregulatory Standards Bill;

Again, I must protest that the official website for making Parliamentary submissions has hard dependencies on proprietary scripts served from domains owned by Goggle; google.com and gstatic.com

So a known DataFarmer has a number of potential backdoors into a system that is recording people's contact details and political views. Considering the role tech corporations are playing in the new USAmerican fascism, the wisdom of this is even more questionable.

For anyone still working on their submission on the Regulatory Standards Bill, there’s an event on this evening, hosted by Tanya Waikato, with guests Tina Ngata & Carwyn Jones.

7pm on BHN.

https://www.youtube.com/live/0lwEtHJ4f5k?si=Qs_EM4OGVkofMnt2

The deadline for submissions is Monday at 1pm.

If you miss the live show, watch it tomorrow & in the spirit of Matariki, reflect on the future you want for yourself, & for future generations. Write your submission with that thought firmly in mind.

The Ministry of Regulation is like the Ministry of Truth in 1984; the name is the opposite of what it does. As the NZ variant of DOGE, it's really the Ministry for deRegulation.

If you haven't submitted on the Regulatory Standards Bill yet, which would give them an influential role in the NZ legislative process, you've got until 1.00pm on Monday, 23 June 2025. I'd get it in before Monday though, in case the Parliamentary servers melt under the load again;

"The majority of the 22,821 submissions on last year’s consultation on a potential Regulatory Standards Bill weren’t even read by the Ministry for Regulation before proposals on next steps were taken to Cabinet."

#MarcDaalder, 2025

Just remember the call for submissions over the holidays was just a box-ticking Ministry of Disregulation consultation. The select committee process is happening right now;

"What’s at stake here is the ability of any future government to respond to the very real crises we face - climate change, inequality, biodiversity loss - without being tied down by legal threats, corporate claims and Seymour’s rigid neo-liberal ideology."
