@theluddite oh my coauthor presented some work at 4s Sarah Klein 🧡 also thanks for the kind words!
reading this exchange made me happy
and yes i totally agree, we need some spaces where <that topic> gets no air at all
(i'm also vv comfortable with other people being the ones to carry critique on that topic and yet sometimes it still consumes me... i want nothing more than spaces entirely separate from it)
💯
> I completely eschew — and stand totally against — the contemporary so-called artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, like LLMs, which serve to displace human labour and deskill us, our students, future members of society. And on this: you can read my other website which has a critical artificial intelligence literacy (CAIL) page and some posts that cover related topics and summarize my longer articles or my thoughts regarding AI.
> But due to how much AI takes over the discourse, sucks the air our of the room, and rightfully riles people up this is a space to talk about human learning: human critical communicative, learning, teaching, and thinking skills.
@olivia @inquiline @theluddite I love this!
In case you haven’t encountered them yet: https://lesscomputer.ca/ and https://humancrafted.discourse.group/ emit, to me, a similar energy and desire.
@olivia You're *definitely* one of the people who does have something to say about AI! Too many people at 4s are following the trend then getting lost in a cloud of empty abstraction, which is basically the opposite of what you do! I'm always glad of your unpacking of a theory or model.
@theluddite it's heartbreaking 🪻🌻💙 I also really appreciate your work
@olivia Thank you ❤️❤️ It means a lot from one of the coolest people here!
@theluddite also I just want to be able to hate on AI but still have my space free of it when I need to and to document my opinions. For obvious reasons I think it really sucks the joy out of so much that yes I want to fight it (and I sadly work in an AI dept) but if everything is about it, they really do win.
