There's a concept called active ignorance where you choose to not accept or read evidence of a problematic person or community norm as you don't want to have to think about the harms and perhaps have to give it up.
It's why I'm irritated by the folks who are all no politics please, just the tech. Or that "Bob and Van" piece.
Who you accept in your community, who you choose to work with, especially if you excuse abusive behaviour damages a community more. We see you.

However, as the devil's advocate I've also to add one more thing.
I'm prone to elaborate and deep think, this means I easily go beyond what others say. Not necessarily for good or bad, but even thoughts may become too political, or too polarizing, for persons living "comfortably numb".
Then there's the fact I don't use my mother tongue, and this complicates everything.
There's a continuous escape from reality, where any disagreement is seen as shocking.
