@decryption Yep this can fuck right off. I only watch the NRL and the occasional F1 race when it's in a friendly timezone.
I also go halves with a mate because Kayo haven't locked that down yet.
@decryption I remember way back when Foxtel announced they were adding sports to the base package, and also that the base package would be increasing in price. It was pretty clear they were trying to spread the licensing costs over the entire user base.
I guess this is what it looks like when only the sports fans are paying those licensing costs.
@jamesh yep, they know they have AFL fans at least, by the balls as it's the only way to watch your team if they're not one of the big clubs, or if they play on a Saturday (no FTA footy on saturdays)
@decryption Given the strong links with sports-betting these days, perhaps they could come up with a promotion where people could use some of their gambling losses to offset the cost of the streaming service?
@decryption It's such a crappy app as well. Like it’s like they try to make it bad. I find it hard to believe that the underlying costs have increased that much.
@andrewharvey yeah it kinda sucks for live sport - i'd often get a text message from my dad who's watching on FTA about an event in a game that's like 30 seconds ahead and ruins it for me lol
@decryption woah, that is expensive! I wish I could get a F1 subscription separately in Aus, rather than a subscription to a bunch of sports I never watch! 🤬
@decryption Yeeesh. That's starting to test the relationship.
Even if, breaking it down on an hours-watched-per-month basis it's probably the one service where I get the most value for money.
people on reddit say just pirate it, but have you seen the quality? 1080p low bit-rate horse shit - give me 4k or give me death, i must see the tears on my opponents face when they lose
@decryption makes me glad to only be into F1, where the times don’t make sense to watch live anyway 90% of the time. Makes pirating 4k much easier.
@mattdarveniza i do that with some NFL games! works well
@decryption I've had kayo not work a few times and I HAD to look up a pirate stream. wish pirating live stuff was easier but I guess its a harder problem to solve
@decryption when norths opponents lose??? :P
@jonathantrott when it happens there will be tears!
@decryption of joy hopefully!
@jonathantrott when it happens there will be tears!
@decryption I toyed with those options before I gave up and went Kayo many years ago. The pain of chasing a working stream and waiting for it to work, only to fail as the game/race starts was too painful. We want to watch it live so we just sucked it up and paid for it. But this was back when it was $15-$20. I'm still using the 'AFL Club Digital Membership' option to make it as cheap as possible, but man the content rights holders certainly know what they have. :(
@Shawn exactly - I wish the pirates were better at this!
