It is not about marginalizing other people, it is about teaching people to be responsible for themselves.
On mastodon, your timeline is what you make it. If you do not want to follow somebody, don't. If somebody that you do follow, posts something you don't like, unfollow them.
If somebody you don't follow responds to a post that you made, and it is too much to handle, block them.
If they create multiple accounts to harass you, then administrators should get involved.

I disagree.
User-led options are far superior to server-led controls because the require effort by the user.
I as an administrator do not know (nor really care) what user/content might be "problematic" to another user.
This is the internet. There are people on here you will not like or want to associate with.
If a user is so fragile that they cannot be exposed long enough to block it, then the user probably should not be on the internet anyway.
