I am getting really, really sick of how trying to discover useful information on the web is becoming impossible. Even simple queries return with a deluge of SEO-ed AI slop, even on subjects that sorely deserve much more care and attention.

I'm reading about the best ways to safely introduce a dog to a baby, and mutually-contradictory vibes are not sufficient for such an important topic.

God-rot everybody that's had a hand in producing this outcome. Time to visit the library again.

@jsbarretto yup. It’s a mess.
I’ve given up on google/etc and now look for small communities on forums or discord.
The internet is dead

@PaulaMaddox Even the all-powerful 'site:reddit.com' trick for reviews/first-hand accounts isn't quite as it used to be. It all feels very bleak.

@jsbarretto sadly Reddit has become a cesspool of bigotry.

@PaulaMaddox I think I've managed to avoid seeing that side mostly by sticking to carpentry/self-hosting/gardening subs. I hear that the rest of the site tends to oscillate between crypto-fascism and edgy dirtbag leftism every few years though.

@jsbarretto and what about all the people not smart like you? It's a massive indictment of all those pushing AI and trying to profit from this malevolent practice.

@happyborg I think it speaks of a pretty critical hole in our current social contract: we (the state, the courts, the media) are quite good at assigning blame and dishing out consequence based on immediate downstream effects of negligence and carelessness, but fail massively at more distributed effects: emissions being another example. Maybe there's a model for prosecuting these people and companies to be found in the modern climate legal movement?
