Just got another flurry of shouty mentions, replying to a post from several weeks ago, complaining about my lack of content warnings on “political” topics.
Sorry, no. This may be a norm on some instances and in some communities, but it isn’t in mine. And politics, law, and policy comprises a significant fraction of my work and interests.
There are more powerful and effective tools for controlling what you read here than scolding strangers for failing to follow imaginary rules.

@mattblaze I love my keyword filters or #blocklists. Some people or hashtags I follow also post and contain things I don't care about at all. Nothing outrageous, imo, my two main lists block lots of sports and as much generated slop as I can block😋
Sometimes things are not caught and I'm happy to add to my lists, while keeping up to speed on everything else these good people talk about.
The bestest thing is that the others can enjoy discussing, for example, sports to their heart's content ☺️

@mattblaze Someone i followed back was demanding we all put CW's on political posts.
I also boost posts that are political at times, so obviously i'm not a good account to be following if the intent is to never see anything political in their feed.
I'm #transgender, it's 2025, i live in the #USA. I don't have the luxury of not paying attention to what's going on. It's not my main focus, but it's one i reserve the right to boost and post about.
So i unfollowed and removed them to comply.
I don’t understand why people use them on food posts. They seem so unnecessary. I assume we all eat.

@mattblaze while I 100% agree with you I also wish I had better tools for filtering, specifically: my timeline contains a high amount of depressing news and while I usually want it that way (current events are important to me) I *sometimes* want to filter it a bit (mental health: also important) and it seems mastodon has no support for on/off filter toggles; I'd have to manually delete and recreate filter lists. Doable but pretty annoying. Probably there's an API too but not everyone's a coder..
@mattblaze this is so unnecessary. i have a fuckton of filters for words i want muted or behind a clapper. why aren't people creating their own CW with the filter system?!?!?
@blogdiva getting people to not discuss current events on social media seems like a rather futile hill to die on.
