CME update
It's always dangerous to try to live-report events like this. It's looking like we're only just seeing the "hairy edge" of the first CME which was never well placed to strike a direct hit. The solar wind is pretty lack-lustre right now and it seems it won't cause as much impact as first thought. A small bump is now arriving at Earth but it's not looking very impressive.
The second CME may come within hours and should be a lot stronger. I'll probably not be awake for it.
Aurora is visible on a camera over Iceland now, fighting a bright moon.
