"For nearly 20 years, the [ #SNP] has acted, in many respects, as a bulwark to the worst of Westminster – or so the story goes. Not good policy, just not as bad as Westminster. Just enough to hold power without disrupting the status quo.

When the SNP had the political capital to finally scrap the regressive Council Tax – something they had previously promised to do – they baulked. On LGBT rights, they faltered and kicked the can down the road"

@simon_brooke Westminster mindset eventually captures even the most anti establishment SNP MP.

@simon_brooke I always think about Pete Wishart, there's an example of entrenchment in Westminster.

@onepict Indeed. And he's not alone. I'd also cite Stephen Flynn, although others may disagree. It seems to me that he's made himself a cosy niche in which he has influence and exposure without responsibility.

@simon_brooke this is what happens when you're a party that claims it's the only party for that ideology.

Even after it's been abandoned your part still parrots the talking points without action. Labour managed to do that for 70 odd years. So I hope Scot's realise this sooner and vote for the @ScottishGreens

If you're interested in the reform of #CouncilTax -- which you should be -- there's a current consultation you can respond to, and should. It isn't, of course, nearly radical enough -- it's an exercise in turd-polishing, not in seriously trying to address the problem. But the more people who say so, the more likely we are to get real change.

Future of council tax in Scotland: consultation

This consultation seeks views on how Scotland’s council tax system could be made fairer and more up to date. It explores illustrative models such as revaluing properties, adjusting tax bands and introducing protections to help households manage any changes to their bills.
