Anyone want to help me write a book?

I want to teach the complexities that go into an (inclusive) operating system, into allowing us to interact with our computers!

Talking with local educators, I think there could be demand. The sanded off corners of modern computers leave many curious souls (including kids) curious what's behind them! And spreading the knowledge could reduce annoying hype.

I've done *extensive* research, but I'd need help writing & publishing this. Offers?

@baldur ?

@alcinnz I have a small publishing house with 0 reach, but it exists.

From what I've written already on the subject...

Its clear to me that I'd need to go for breadth not depth! An operating system covers a lot of subjects, several of which are entire academic fields unto themselves!

Saying "this is one common & illustrative approach, you can read more elsewhere" is probably necessary to keep the book to a reasonable length!

2/1!

@alcinnz I wish I had time to help write, but I can definitely proof-read / aggressively edit! (If you have notes in the approximate shape of a chapter, I might be able to help turn them into an actual chapter.)

@wizzwizz4 Proof-reading would be helpful!

I've only just started seriously thinking about this, but maybe I can rephrase/reorganize my hardware-browser hypothetical for a more lay-audience?

I find that a nice way to split the necessary complexity from the historical accidents.

Maybe at this point, just someone to bounce ideas off of would be helpful?

@alcinnz It's already quite clearly explained, so (at the risk of giving https://xkcd.com/2501/ advice) I suspect just filling in some background context about the domain and technologies involved might be sufficient.

I'm happy to be available for ideas-bouncing, or if you can find a document system with comments (even just ODF files), I could add copious inline comments as required.

@wizzwizz4 How about this? I'm writing an outline of the topics I consider vital to computing now.

I'll be ready to share that with you tomorrow or the day after.

From there I can probably mostly reuse my existing writing to flesh it out!

I'm debating whether to include USB, the internet, & the web in the book. It'd be a long enough book regardless, but could seem ungrounded without that...

I'll definitely include Unicode & TrueType/OpenType!
