@thomasfuchs Hello dear. Could you please help me promote and share my posts? This would mean a lot to me; perhaps someone will see my story and my children's story thanks to you.🙏
The people who believe in AI are the exact same humans who believe that god is something other than "everyone else" so them lustily lapping the slop makes a fuckton of disgusting sense
@thomasfuchs There's no real good reason. But I think it is because everyone wants to be ahead of the curve, keep up with the Joneses, one up others. And so they just hop onto the next shiny new thing that has been advertised to them. I heard people talk a lot about what AI can potentially do without actually showing me that AI can do what they say. It's always "if YOU can prompt it properly it will do wonders". Has it done wonders for anyone? Show me that and I will believe it.
@thomasfuchs What happened to the "singularity"? I was supposed to be able to upload *my own* brain to a computer and have it spew deranged nonsense in response to prompts.
The thing about snake oil was the fact that there was actually never any snake oil in the bottle.
@thomasfuchs I'm disappointed that the #techbros haven't all fecked off to Mars. #goodriddance
@thomasfuchs IMO, mostly because of the ELIZA effect https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ELIZA_effect
LLMs _seem_ to be very intelligent, very convincingly, because humans are really bad at determining if things are actually intelligent the moment they start spitting out things that look like language
@thomasfuchs@hachyderm.io gah i just woke up what new jesus tech did they reinvent while i was asleep? the wheel? did they make it metal and put on a rail?? did they reinvent trains??? again??!?!?!
