I see this almost every day: whenever you talk about an app, product, idea, or anything really, someone online jumps in with, "I'm amazed you support this because those people are awful," or worse, "you liked something that someone thinks is evil, so you must support this evil thing." Basically, "why aren’t you perfect?"

I advocate for open platforms while still using commercial ones. I listen to both black metal and jazz. I don't own a car by choice. I'm sober, but I still eat meat. I use Signal, deleted WhatsApp and X, but I stay on Meta platforms like Instagram and Threads. I use Linux, but also a Mac. I value more leftist values, but some think I'm a corporate tech bro asshole by having my own business and aiming for profit. I contribute to open source but host my projects on GitHub instead of purely libre alternatives, and so on...

People forget that contradictions are part of being human. You can stand for good things, but you'll never be perfect. That's life. That's human. We live in a society where everyone supports something harmful, whether unknowingly or by choice.

For me, there's a certain line, but not everything has to affect me. They are my values for a reason. I live only by my values. For instance, extramusical issues don't strongly influence my listening habits, although there are some exceptions, they are rare. The Steelfest black metal festival faces criticism from antifascist networks each year, regardless of whether fascist bands are involved or not. I've been accused of being a silent supporter of many things.

I'm just so tired of this. Everyone has their own values, and we can try to live by them, but please, stop judging others in pursuit of moral superiority. Focus on your own choices and values.

@rolle I wonder sometimes what the acceptable number of "Kevin Bacon Degrees" is before you're allowed to like something on social media anymore.

Am I allowed to like Taco Bell because a fascist ate a taco once, but Taco Bell still hasn't created an ad campaign specifically denouncing that fascist? And if McDonald's hasn't denounced Taco Bell yet for not denouncing the fascist, do I need to boycott them, too?

@rolle I've heard of Green Fascism (viherfasismi) and Health Fasicm (terveysfasismi) where people won't allow anything against the nature's and health's best, but I haven't heard of Kindness Fasicm. Don't get me wrong, I'm just trying to be humourous 😁 Safe space is a real thing.

I decided never to get angry, mad or sad when I was a teenager, but it led to situation that I cannot cry anymore, and all the cortisol stays in my system. I've heard that getting angry is a natural emotion and healthy human needs it. Too much is too much and things need to be discussed afterwards and apologies are needed.

Discussion and conversation are the key to everything, I think. Arguments and sources are important.

I'm still learning how to get angry and sad, but it's difficult. I register other's feelings and behave appropriately.

Black and white is not the solution, not even gray-scale - we need the whole spectrum to find the diamond of truth.

@rolle Yeah, the correction-Karen culture on here has always been off the wall. I might agree, in theory, with the points being made, but the behavior itself is just toxic and selfish, like a right-wing Christian calling people sinners and threatening them with hellfire. It was never about education or justice; it's about asserting power over someone else.

We are ambassadors for our values. Busting into a stranger's replies to insult them only serves to discredit whatever you're advocating for.

If it wasn't clear already - if you think it's appropriate to post a comment criticizing or blaming me for my life choices, I won't hesitate to block you. You're also free to limit me from your feed if you prefer.

My instance is built on kindness, and there's no room for unkindness here.

@rolle

#KnowThyself and thy #CoreValues and that’s more than 99% of society not exercising its #CriticalThinking skills.
