Europe is upping its game in AI.

Researchers, innovators & policymakers now have stronger support to shape the future of science.

Today we launched two AI strategies to boost EU leadership in scientific innovation:

🥼 AI in Science

🔹Access to AI Factories & Gigafactories
🔹Stronger EU & global cooperation
🔹 Impact on major challenges such as climate change and health

🔬 Apply AI:

🔹Enhances EU tech sovereignty
🔹Targeted actions to boost AI in key sectors
🔹Supports AI integration among SMEs

@EUCommission - Like the Canadian population showing the US they can be a powerfull force by refusing to spend their holidays @ fe Florida or Maine, European citizens can also take action. For example to slowly move away from US Tech.
Examples? Use LibreOffice and not MS Office; use Vivaldi webbrowser and not Edge; use BlueSky and not X; or... a little bit more advanced: use Linux as Operating System and not Windows or in general... Use OpenSource software where possible.
If +400M Europeans change just one application/service, that would have a real big impact.

@EUCommission - There is going to come a time very soon where stakeholders realize they are blowing hundreds of millions of dollars on apps, infrastructure and power to maintain it all, only to discover that for a majority of everyday users, it's a "Squirrel!" feature - an easy, fun distraction but not essential to their daily use - and it's the tech equivalent of 3D TVs or Blu-ray discs.
Meanwhile, Corporations and Commissions will have displaced thousands from jobs for this fad wunderkind.

@EUCommission The EU takes up the AI baton just at the right time.

@EUCommission So far we see AI costs lots of energy and water for cooling. For now people at helpdesks and in the entertainment industry are being replaced by AI. When will we be governed by AI only?

@EUCommission Will it be used in correct ways, like pattern-matching, safely (eg mammography result cancer screening), or a lasseiz-faire "move fast, break the enviroment" rollout of generative AI to the public?

This is becoming embarrassing.

But sure, keep trying to find a good excuse for building power hungry data centres.

@EUCommission

The mess we need to compost is the managerial mirage of innovation, where control and image matter more than substance.

Making the people pushing this mess accountable is a useful form of activism.

@EUCommission Booo! Sovereign, EU based generative "ai" is not going to fix the actual underlying issues of the technology, or its carbon footprint, or its moral and ethical issues, or who will benefit from it.
The EU should help to restrict this technology, provide guidelines, etc, instead of blindly following a ballooning tech bubble, one that will have disastrous results when it pops.
