It’s a dystopian scenario and I admit myself it’s more than a little hysterical. But entire eras, that lasted decades or centuries, originated with similar thinking. It’s completely within human capability for civilization to go this way.
It’s also possible, at any point, to stop it. To stop admiring plutocrats, to find leaders who see the peril, to not play into fearing and hating and fighting against each other, to care about each other, to unite when they want us to divide and submit.

@Cdespinosa As a Canadian I'm wondering if I should be going from "we're pretty well set up for a climate change future" to fearing the coming climate war.
Russia's big too, and and the US has (had) more beef with Russia than Canada. Go bother them.
Another possible factor: The oligarchs seizing as much power and wealth as possible for themselves to cement their positions before China becomes dominant in every way, and before the general chaos rises too far.
@Cdespinosa Great thread. Completely agree. People at work think I’m overreacting when I suggest even a tiny bit of my thoughts on the matter. “Oh Nigel”, they say… I’ll think of them from my forest cabin.
