As “good white people” prepare for the Oct. 18th No Kings Day Protest, I have one question:

What are you doing to ensure that this country’s legacy of empowering mediocre, unremarkable white men finally ends so that 40 or 50 years from now, your descendants aren’t organizing their own No Kings Day protest for the exact same reasons?

Because this isn’t just about one man or one administration. It’s about the enduring myth of white male supremacy that has shaped every system, institution, policy, and “leader” this country has elevated since its founding, including Obama, who as a “safe” choice for “good white folx.” It’s about the ways Mediocre laid bare how white men have been rewarded, not for brilliance or justice, but for their ability to preserve the racist status quo that privileges you above all else.

And it’s about how white women have often played a central role in maintaining that system. White Women, Get Ready reminds us that gender doesn’t absolve complicity, it just disguises it in benevolence. Too often, “good white women” have stood in protest with one hand while voting, hiring, or parenting in ways that protect the very patriarchy they claim to oppose.

So as you hold your signs and chant for “No Kings,” remember, you can’t dismantle monarchy while worshiping the myth of white male saviors. You can’t demand liberation while centering comfort. You can’t imagine a new world while refusing to confront the ways you benefit from the old one.

The real protest begins when you turn that same energy inward. When you divest from the systems, institutions, and policies that make “kings” possible in the first place.

Because without that work, No Kings Day will just another day that ends in “Y.”
