@simon You're remark that books on Emacs aren't published often resonated with me -- Mastering Emacs is excellent, but also very general purpose by nature.
From which angle are you coming to the Emacs world?
@ctietze I’m been a software developer professionally for 30 years and have a weird desire to use older technologies as I get older. This ranges from LaTeX to AWK as well as exploring Neovim and Emacs. So my eventual usage will be for coding but a lot of the exploration is being done writing blog posts and working on smaller chunks of code.
I’m generally just craving tools that get out of my way and allow me to be as platform-independent and avoid proprietary file formats as much as possible.
@simon ah with these skills, the world's your oyster 😊 Have fun exploring!
I don't code a lot in Emacs (apart from web dev for my own sites) and find LSP and tree-sitter to be 'the great unifiers' of developer experience across tools. Emacs then excels at customizing each key press for me. Hope you find something you like, too. It can be a lovely tool.
@simon For your consideration, Casual is an Emacs package I wrote that tries to provide keyboard-driven menus for most built-in major modes. Learn more about it here https://kickingvegas.github.io/casual/
@kickingvegas That’s fantastic. Once I’m a bit more familiar and comfortable with the very basics I’ll definitely try Casual out, thank you.
@slackline Thank you and what better way to spend these winter evenings than digging into it all!
