... in a general sense. Some types can be collected, rendered down, and made into things. The question is whether it's worth all the energy and resources required to wash, collect and process it, when new plastic is so cheap to make.

Dump mining is similar. Possible in theory, but costly.

Well that one's like saying fridges don't work. They're just the same thing in reverse.

@strypey @jetlagjen my view on dump mining is this is more likely a consideration in the remediation phase of climate and ecological repair. It will only work when ‘planned obsolescence’ goes away and truly sustainable practices can be engaged.

I am dreaming of a time when tailored bacteria can be used to process and separate previous waste into useable compounds for re-manufacturing.

I’m all for #recycling, #reusing, and #reducing waste.
