"... this is actually going to cost the government more money. Because, you take away the [equal pay protections], this will lead to higher welfare payment. It will lead to more accommodation supplement. It will lead to higher Working For Families payments. It will lead to a lower tax take, which will cost the Crown money."

It will lead to higher levels of child poverty. It will lead to higher levels of use of public services, because those workers don't have the income.

This is a self-defeating short win for the government. We're all going to pay for it, in the long run. So even if you don't care about [gender equity, equal pay, etc], there's no sense at all in voting for this."

NatACTs love to blame our low wage economy on regulation, or low population, or "welfare dependency" or whatever. But the real reason is policies they pass into law, which help rentiers keep more of the wealth workers create (including precarious entrepreneurial workers).

"... the amendments that were made to the Equal Pay Act in 2020 made a real, tangible difference to women and women's pay. We had 13 successful pay equity claims that went through, and those women saw a huge difference. In some cases, up to 30%+ changes to their pay.

Today we've seen a huge step backwards, and we need to create a better world for our daughters and our granddaughters."

The colonisation of cognisance i.e. Belief in growth, extraction and domination restrict the development of #Education#Equality #happiness pretty much everything humans need to thrive.
That colonisation is closely aligned with the sovereign state which has to be replaced with a planetary identity.

Anyone know if any of the Big Hairy News folks have bridged their BS accounts into the fediverse, so we can follow and talk to them from here?

Around the 1:38:00 mark, Pat and Chewie have an intriguing chat about the practical challenges they see in trying to get off corporate social media platforms;

https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/pat-brittenden/episodes/BHN-Brooke-Van-Velden-cancels-Equal-Pay-Act--Chris-Hipkins-on-Erica-Stanfords-emails--Luxon-ban-on-under-16s-on-social-media-e32evtg

Challenge accepted! I'm planning a blog post about what they can try out right now, and what we could build if regulation forced corporate platforms to interop with services/ apps offered by smaller competitors and not-for-profit groups.

Suggestions and perspectives welcome.

Here's a truncated version of the BHN segment on social media; their take on ElectroLuxon's proposed ban on under 16s accessing online services, and their own use as independent mediatistas;
