In the discussion about #digitalsovereignty there is an interesting cry for #BuyEuropean, but many of us doubt that that is enough. In software, you (or your organisation or country) being "sovereign" or in control does ultimately not only - or so much - depend on where the HQ of the tech company are located.

@dries, the founder of Drupal, presents an interesting scale for digital sovereignty.

The software license is an important part. Not the only one of course. We'd also think of the maturity of the developer community. And, as an enduser, one's control over or stake in the service provider (in case you need one).

Think #governance #coopcloud #digitalcommons

The Software Sovereignty Scale

Digital sovereignty depends less on where software comes from and more on who controls it. This post introduces a scale showing which technologies can never be taken away.

@Wtebbens The 'Software Sovereignty Scale' is a vital lens. If sovereignty is a spectrum, then corporate 'Open Source' (OSI) is often just a lease, not ownership. We need to move from 'Sovereign Consumption' to 'Sovereign Governance'—where the end-user holds a stake in the infrastructure itself. How do we build 'CoopCloud' protocols that are as metabolically resilient as they are legally open? #DigitalSovereignty #CoopCloud #Governance #DigitalCommons #ReVolt
