There's a lovely German word for such people: Schreibtischtäter.

A bit tricky to pronounce to integrate it into everyday modern American English, but seeing the need for succinct call-outs rising, please consider establishing it as a new loan word.

Thanks for mentioning _IBM & the Holocaust_ earlier this year & again. I've mentioned that book in talks for years — not just for its content, but for the meta-issue: #IBM's (relatively successful) PR campaigns to keep the book & its research marginalized.
